  1. This is great stuff! Thanks for recollecting for us… spinning this record up for (yet another) listen now (well, spinning up spotify instead so you get a nickel at least – or probably less than that)

  2. Wow Bryan, so much good stuff on here, I’m gonna have to go. Ack and listen again.
I always wondered about the “Dot, Dot, Dot” part of “Help Is On The Way”, now I’ll listen to it with a whole new appreciation.
    Thanks again for sharing!

  3. So cool to hear backstory to these songs! I have “Whistlin’ In The Dark” and “You Can Rely On Me” on my phone/jukebox -along with many other greats like “Darkness Is Falling ” and an armada of SCB songs. Thanks for using your gifts for The Kingdom, you have helped many believers through their challenges.

  4. So much great music from the heart. It’s really special getting the history and production notes. I have a few questions which I’ll ask you later. Good stuff man!

  5. Oh Yeah! Life changing album. Loved the cover, good looking guy, posterised photo ( never learned how to do that as a photographer) on great cover and really related to the lyrics as a front line Christian in hand to hand combat. Could not believe the real words and never imagined that gospel music could be so well written and produced. That cassette was well played, now a bit crackly.

      1. Oh dear, just the cassette, mate from overuse!!!!! However, on Youtube, someone has done a vynil album of Whistling in the Dark and put it on Youtube.

  6. Thanks Bryan! Another morning of inspiration. You said something about surprises. Sometimes no surprises is a good thing too. But yeah life wouldn’t be very interesting if there wasn’t a wrinkle here and there. Great lyrics and depth…

    1. yea, almost every truth can go two ways! sounds like “Things are Gonna Change” I meant it for good but the engineer on that project was not happy bout the idea cause he loved where he was..

  7. Many times I’ve felt in the dark and would play this album and be encouraged and find hope and increased faith. Because “all of my strength must come from You to carry me through the night”. Thankful for your gift and this album.

  8. I remember buying this CD and it was an instant hit. You played in Pleasant Valley mo at my home church and I think your X was running the merchandise. I still have that T shirt! I love all the back stories and nods to the writers, players and performers.

  9. As always, you touch my spirit and soul.
I really really love these sermons m, my sweet FLF! You are a miracle man to me and countless others….
    Blessings!

  10. Confession time…I am not familiar with this project. I did listen to it right after listening to this podcast, however, and,of course it did not disappoint. I added it to my Spotify. Am I right in thinking these are not your most played or am I whistlin’ in the dark? Lol

  11. This is one of my favorite albums of all time! It was the first cassette tape my parents bought me when I was 8 years old and the first track scared the living crap out of me. My tape collection consisted of The Beach Boys and Bryan Duncan, and I had gotten into the habit of turning up the volume at the end of the Beach Boys songs I would listen to in order to squeeze out every last note of the vocals during the “fade out”. Since Bryan D was my favorite solo artist, I decided to do the same with this new album. Big mistake. I’m sitting in my room listening to “Whistlin'” fade out at the end only to hear this giant “BOOM” at the end of the song with my speakers at full volume! Change of pants, please!

All joking aside, these songs helped shape my faith and even my children listen to them (because they have to….dad controls the music). My oldest daughter is currently on a 9-month mission trip in Cambodia, Thailand, South Africa, and Guatemala. Before she left, I wrote her 9 letters to open after each month on the mission field. Each letter has a selected song for her to listen to and meditate on that I have chosen for her. When she gets to month 8, I have assigned her “When I Think of Home” to be the meditation for her final month on the mission field. Bryan, your songs are having an impact on the next generation and in other continents! Thanks for sharing your stories!

    1. Hey JM! thanks for signing in here. First of all thanks for the laugh in your first paragraph I plan to share that story with my inner circle too btw! And Wow what a cool idea for your daughter. brilliant! I leave little notes all over the house for my wife to find after I’m gone too.. you’ve lightened my load today J. thanks for that

  12. Bryan this was the second record I purchased from an absolutely every time I play it it gets me through all my pain and hurts. Thank you for following Christ and writing all these songs to help others.
