  1. THANKS Bryan ! ‘Though my eye could see, I still was a blind man. Though my mind could think, I still was…?” Kerry Live-grin ‘Kerry-On’ suspected he was a part-time loon, too ?? Rich B SC blvd-Presley street (Elvis) Phil Ehart said ‘Point of Know Return’ was going to be a suicide theme song (hints) LP cover was first, a drawing of a gent jumping out of window (cancelled for ‘GOOD REASONS, ya think… the dragon and Arch Angel, was a much better album cover.

  2. I love this song. And the raw vulnerability it has even in the comedic effect of it.
Truth is we are all the “Lunatic Friend ” and we sure do all need Jesus.
It’s so true that it’s easier to point out sins of others than deal with our own.
And that’s the Gospel of Christ and why He came to redeem all His Lunatic friends.

  3. Bryan, I love my lunatics friend album.
As a ex worship pastor on burn out at the time it was just what I needed.
Now your song “Talk to me gently” is helping me pray for one of my granddaughters.
Hey, iTunes took “Conversations” off my playlist in Australia.
How can I get a copy?

  4. For decades I have loved your music because you have addressed “sensitive” topics and began to help make them more “acceptable to talk about. To some degree I knew there was a part of your lived experience in those lyrics. You are just too authentic to not have a part of yourself in the songs.

    1. Hi KT and thanks for the endorsement.. I mean I don’t feel like I have to share everything with everyone but to pretend you haven’t been places some would be shocked to know.. is kinda make believer to me

  5. I’m happy to hear the story behind this song. Honestly, my friend was a little confused. Of course, she never read the lyrics…lol…
I like the thought of being your lunatic friend because frankly, we are all off the rails one way or another…

  6. Life is much stranger (and poetically odd, or half-way funny) than fiction ? (too often) Another ‘GREAT’ talk and 2026 posts, Bryan… I hope, many hear it…and understand=comprendo muchomas… Our ‘inner child’ helps us push common sense, noble plans, peace, bliss, off the track, with our smart ass young luna-friend. Jesus rode in, on an ass, before Easter, right? So…? There is HOPE

  7. Man, thanks Bryan. So timely that you would break down those lyrics. I’ve been listening to that song fairly frequently. And it even seemed to fit in a discussion the other day with some guys I meet with once a week and read through Christian’s books together. The topic this time was community and transparency. I couldn’t help but make the connection to Lunatic Friend. I read em the lyrics. Undoubtedly a God thing. Thanks for being my lunatic friend. Really enjoying the back row too!

  8. Hello Mr. Bryan. My name is Karl Shockley and your music has a very special place in my heart. My father, Walter Shockley was a huge fan of yours. You may remember him from the Voyage of Faith cruise my family and I were a part of sometime in 2004. I believe my father considered you a dear friend of his. I would love to know more about the two of yours friendship. If any of this rings a bell, I’d love to hear back from you! God bless brother!

  9. Its me again, as I told you Saturday on the back row. This album is one of my favorites because of how relatable many of the songs are to me (and in my opinion the human condition in general). Lunatic friend coupled with we all need gives an honest person a lot to think about. At least it has for me. I’ve been there, done that, bought the album. Lol. By the way sunday go to meetin is my jam on Sunday mornings. Many times I woke my kids up for church blasting that song at loud volume. Still brings smiles and joy on a Sunday morning.

Anyways be encouraged, the love of Jesus is strong. I thank God for Jesus, grace and encouragement from lunatic friends.

    1. this is confusing.. thought it was the top tag “Bulk actions’ that was tryin to send one message to everyone! BUT LOOKS like I have to hit reply first and then check the comment next .. if I approve of a comment first it disappears.. really irritating they’ve done something and never explained it

  10. This song came around during my college days – yes we’re all old now, let’s not belabor it – and I always loved it. I still listen to it, as it resides in my official, canonical library/playlist on Apple-Spotify-whatever. I love listening to this lunatic talk – he talks like he sings (the voice of an angel – a really silly angel), and he talks the way he writes. Genuine and refreshing, really. I’ll keep all your good tunes (and I’m definitely including some Sweet Comfort Band classics) in my rotation, brother.

  11. By the way, I should add that during those college days, so many moons ago, back in antiquity, I was on the student club that helped spend the university’s money on occasional concerts in the chapel (a Christian school, ya know). And yes indeed one of the esteemed performers we invited there was YOU, with your cost-effective ‘econo-band.’ And I’m not pranking you with all of this, even though I am posting it on April 1. So if you like, answer a fool according to his folly – or don’t, since both are biblical.

  12. Oh man…. That bridge! Always gave me goosebumps. The horns, the swelling, I mean, I can FEEL that RAGING DESPERATION! I got chill bumps even you reciting them. and that 2nd verse – I could totally relate to the “self righteous vigilantes” (still do!) It’s an absolutely brilliant song Bryan! Although I’d say I’ve deconstructed (I think that’s the buzzword the GenX’ers are usin’ these days, lol) but I’m tellin’ ya, your music continues to always touch my soul. Just before I hopped on the blog, I was doing the dishes and dancin’ my tail off to a playlist I made of your music downloaded to my phone. Although my playlist mostly features post-Lunatic songs, the near-title track is just a masterclass (IMHO) in how to write perfect lyrics while the music supports the narrative. I loved the humor where all your “friends” put it all together about who you’re really talking about, and all your deflection as the song fades. Dude, I love it.

  13. Lunatic friend is one of the greatest songs ever. I remember the lyrics giving me some sense of grace when I was floundering and lost.
When are you going to break down the lyrics of Mr Bailey’s Daughter??
