  1. I’ve been to so many churches where people are expected to attend church and serve regularly and often. If you become a member, you’re expected to attend church every time it’s open and participate in several ministries. They don’t seem to understand that some people just don’t have the time or resources. I think you should be paid for your time on the worship team, since you are a professional musician and singer. After all, shouldn’t God‘s people – not just pastors – be rewarded for their service?
Also, you’re not being selfish if you don’t participate in several ministries and your church. God knows your limits better than they do. Unless the Lord is telling you to do more, just do what you can.

      1. Well my friend, as long as you’re doing what the Lord wants it doesn’t matter what others think. If the Lord is telling you to do more that’s different.

  2. I sure can relate to your Nut Shell sermons Bryan! I just turned 60 in September and that was tough. My daughter got married on the 30th, so that helped me to get my mind of it some. About 5 years ago I felt like the Lord told me I needed to step down from working with middle school aged kids in my church. He told me I was trying to pour from an empty cup, and it was time to start allowing he and others to minister to me. I fought him tooth and nail on that, but he won of course. I still struggle though with allowing myself to sit at his feet. Martha and I are a lot alike in that sense. I have trouble reading too, since I had Cataract surgery. So its easier to find scripture on You Tube. I’d much rather read the Bible but I guess hearing it is just as good.
Hope your wife is feeling better? I started PT today to strengthen my leg muscles. She wants to see me twice a week! What was I thinking?
    God Bless!

  3. The workman is worthy of his pay. I’ve worked for some Christians, even under contract, where it was not cool with them that I should expect pay. So how do I eat? Do they value my time and effort? That can be a really serious issue. My answer finally came when I stopped working for people who wanted my work without or with very little compensation, unless it was something I felt lead to do.

    1. thanks for your input James. some people know how to manipulate your service to God. Do nothing out of obligation. God loves a cheerful giver. sometimes that ain’t happening! LOL

  4. Yep,,,I agree…we have to look at this way also. In His eyes and heart,it must have been all about me (us) or God wouldn’t have sent His Son Jesus to die for ‘us’. And I gave my life and time for my kids,so it was all about them. Good point there Bryan!!!

  5. Totally get it,I’m right there with ya! I guess what I’ve learned is that if you operate with the gifts you’ve been given, it’ll be a joy to serve.
