HI C… I’m always surprised by how little I’ve actually changed.. I have recurring defense mechanisms, and serious trust issues! thanks for following along!
“…rehearsing my justifications for stuff I did that God forgave me for…” You mean I’m not the only one who does that? I mean, no one even has to say anything, I beat myself up freely quite often for things that (I hope) no one else even remembers happening. I’ll drive myself crazy trying to justify why I wore a certain pair of socks sometimes! I don’t understand why I think I have to justify every move I make, but I do.
Hi Heather.. for me it comes from being under scrutiny from Christians generally.. theres a sermon right there about the difference between judging and being a fruit inspector
Great nutshell. Some Christians are the worst. It’s hard enough to let go of something that God has forgiven us for without the self-righteous reminding you about it.

Have you started your auto biography yet? if not, you should consider writing one. you have been blessed to serve God through the heyday of Christian music with all it’s ups and down. so many great experiences and interactions with everyone in the ccm world. I remember many years ago you’d blog after each show. great stories!
That blog was not got for my promoters and my overall career LOL I thought honesty and transparency would propel me to the top of Christian circles.. NOT TRUE. It has to be ‘packaged’ I’ve thought about writing a book but truth is I am not a big enough entity for that to be compelling to a publisher. its a lot of work for now profit. hence the nutshell sermons
I read an interview once where Amy Grant was confronted about being a hippo crit concerning her divorce and remarriage to one of the Eagles. Her response has stuck with me She said “oh I am so much worse” No propaganda spouting, no denial or justifications just admitting to being a sinner saved only by grace. People its not about us, its about what was done for us.
I don’t think they even had there accusations right.. was she ever married to one of the Eagles? that’s news to me.. but then I never asked her about her first marriage. I still tend to try and defend my self righteousness all to often.. its a lost cause.. Thanks for hanging around Mike I appreciate you!
This is the second mention you’ve made of my favorite author, Brennan Manning. Must be my reminder to go read his stuff again. >smile< I agree with other lunatic commenters: Please write a book. We kind find buyers in your fan base- they aren’t all dead yet.
And yeah- how can we crucify our pride/self-righteousness enough to respond automatically with “Oh, I’m so much worse than that” ???
LOL.. I don’t have the attention span to write a book .. I’ve written three ‘quick reads’ you might not know Prayers You Won’t Hear/ Hogwash / and Spoke To God.. HE Said tellin my story gets boring after about 8 min LOL

Yea I was a little shocked myself.. but it makes you wonder how many are not being honest with you to start with about how they feel.
