  1. I really appreciate your stories as you lived thru these days and share about them. From my view, somewhere in the back row, I just remember buying your tapes and even got to see you perform. Dude, as a new believer, you were a giant to me and my wife.
We wore them cassette tapes out.
Good times, thanks for sharing from behind the scenes!

  2. Thank you for doing these. If no one else is getting anything out of them, I am. I love hearing about the song creation and what you were feeling at the time. Good stuff Bryan, keep it up!

      1. I just gave this one another listen, and man, it’s better the second time!
Listen 20 years later sounding “dated” I think is an incorrect term. It’s nostalgic to me. It’s like when I listen to Boston, I remember how much I love the music, not how long ago they wrote it.
And sometimes the most profound things spoken, are done so by the least assuming person available. Thanks for being available to use your gift to help others.

  3. Great stuff! I remember emailing Larry 5-10 years back as his website had a contact email. just said I was a fan of Mr Duncan and really enjoyed the albums he produced for him. He even responded back saying to not contact me again or he’d have a restraining order issued – oh wait that was an ex girlfriend. Larry had nothing but kind things to say. just pulled up his wiki and was not surprised he played drums as you can tell his drumming on the few songs I recall him credited on is not of a wannabe. his wiki did list you in his work in the 80s. Club 440! I guess it’s outdated since 442 is the new standard but Club 440 was cool.

  4. I’m guessing no one else will have this story:
I went through a terrible episode where someone decided to take me down by lying to a judge about my mental health, and I was involuntarily committed to an institution for 9 days before I the entire ordeal could be straightened out. I had a friend who was scrambling for me on the outside, taking care of things and bringing me what I needed. With lots of time on my hands to think, I remembered precisely in my closet where I had my old “Have Yourself Committed” shirt from the tour. I had her bring it to me, and I actually walked around a mental hospital with that shirt on. The staff, who by that time some of which realized that I had been wrongfully forced in here, looked at me with varying degrees of humor and perplexity. There was one tech in particular who thought it was hilarious; he laughed and laughed, ad then hugged me and said, “You don’t belong here, don’t ever come back.” Well, if I had my way I would have never been there in the first place, but I guess it was a learning experience of just how fragile our freedom is here in ‘Murica. The album meant a lot to me in 1985, I wore it out. But the shirt has epic status now.

  5. I like Jefferson starship, once Jefferson airplane. Do the memories sometimes make ya wanna go back and do over? The what if statement pops in to mind..

    1. Hi Jym, You talkin about mine or theirs LOL .. TOP went thru a lot of lead singers over the years.. the Horn players have changed now too. Doc was still with em.. but some o the best musicians moved on. One o the guys grew up in the Salvation Army btw!

  6. Back in the 80’s a friend said they had her neighborhood hoa meet at a local church. There were signs in the hallways with ‘I’M COMITTED’ all over the place. She wasn’t familiar with your album so the group wondered if they walked in to an asylum. We had a good laugh over it.

  7. I should have left replies a long time ago! I love Nutshell Sermons, and especially these musical history episodes! I gave this episode a shoutout on my show on The Christian Mix on Saturday 11/4 right around 10:30am CDT. I gave the shoutout because I played “Have Yourself Committed” during the show. Hope it sends at least 10 people to the website!

    1. LOL.. well thanks Elbert! I’m sure my numbers will rise now LOL. means a lot that my efforts mean something to you. Thanks for passing along my general insanities! LOL

  8. Bob Carlisle is a monster. His vocals on your records just took the songs (and me) to a higher elevation. Bravo top yo , your songwriting and having Bob and Randy helping out! God bless!

    1. hey Tim! nice to see you go back to the earlier posts! thanks I still write with Bobby’ C wrote all but one of the songs on a new record he did called Lil Bobby C & Big Motor/ long long road I wrote most of the lyrics to his stories! LOL

  9. Have Yourself Committed was the first album I was able to get my dad to listen to that wasn’t “The Imperials”. Our family instantly loved ya, went to see you all the time at Knott’s Berry Farms, and other venues. Years later, my dad saw you do a show in Reno. He had been praying for you for over a year quite often, and wasn’t quite sure why other than the Lord placed you on his heart after we had a discussion about your albums. Anyway, after the show, he told you that he had been praying for you, and you opened up to him about what was going on in your life, and my dad prayed with you right then as well. After that, he never stopped. Not everyone is able to know the backstories of their favorite artists, or the valleys they walked; our family did, and we still love ya and yours.

    1. Wow..amazing story.. I also don’t open up too often.. yer dad about my age maybe? I’m always nervous when someone says they’re praying for me… I start think the jig is up or somethin! LOL props to yer family I’m sure the prayers were effective Nate

      1. I don’t know, my dad would be about your age (74). He has been in the Lord’s presence since 2017. My dad had that effect on people; was genuine and real easy to talk with. When my dad told people he was praying for them, he always gave them specifics of his prayers for them. God bless ya!

        1. Great tip on what yer dad did that I will do going forward.. “prayin’ for you’ always sound like a quick one off! thanks .. I had a dad like that too.. lost him in 2015
