  1. I enjoy hearing your story and it helps me a lot. I sometimes feel the same way. at times, just don’t know if what I am doing is helping anyone or not. Thank you for sharing and keep doing what you are doing.

      1. Very true,my nephew of about 30 years recently told me that he had always envied my kids of having a father like me. Of course I take no credit. But he noticed I had kept my kids in church all the life and I stayed close to them. And recently, he has stated that he used to not believe in God and now he’s been talking to Jesus and apparently largely because of my influence. He did not have a good relationship with his father, my brother. I was very humbled. But people are watching us.

  2. This makes me smile. I especially like the part where the band told you they planned on using the money to sin. Hahaha! #RealLife
Thanks for sharing your stories with us sir, I’m loving them!

  3. I remember those 10 min interludes for all important message in the middle. I use to lead the occasional service, stand behind the pulpit play my guitar and lead the songs. Always tried to pick a message and the songs that fit that message, then it was easier to say stuff between songs. I also never liked alter calls. Canned salvation in 5 mins. But I guess giving people an opportunity is important. 3% follow-through on commitment to faith. Maybe speaks to making decisions based on emotions caused by dopamine, rather than true sense of a need God… I definitely agree that music and words should do the talkin’ sometimes it reaches someone unexpected..

    1. it was hard to honest about my alter call feelings.. I know we at somepoint make a public confession.. but not sure we should set the stage for it/ It always made the guy doin the invite look inept if nobody came forward.. somehow it was an inditement on his ‘anointing’

  4. Back in the day we’d spend time listening to your “Holy Rollin” CD. We would musically, lyrically dissect it. Vocals on point dude. Excellent lyrics & songs , solid 80s sound. Plus now we get behind the scenes info to add to some of our favorite songs. I copy the NUTSHELL link to friends.

    1. Man best thing you could do for me these days Ken! thanks for passing these diddies around. it’s hard to imagine people were there too… I thought I was the only one! LOL

  5. I still think it’s amazing everything you’ve been able to accomplish in your life. I know you probably don’t feel that way sometimes, but we’re on the outside looking in, and some things are just envious. You blessed a lot of people my friend, and I’m one of them. And your song, when I Turn to You, it’s always going to be one of my all-time favorites. It gets right down to the Core of our hearts purpose and longing. God bless your day my friend

  6. Oh yeah just one more comment, just talking about sounding like you were arrogant and angry between your songs. I did the same thing when I would Minister at my church on Wednesday nights, the pastor and his son would tell me I sound like I was mad. Strange thing is I thought I was preaching, but actually I was upset at the way people had treated me in the past out of religious laws and it came out in the pulpit down the road. That’s gone now though, thank God.

  7. About 6 months after I believed I began church hunting. Driving down the road one day a little sign barely sticking out of a massive clump of oleander bushes about 15 feet in the air caught my eye, a little unpretentious white sign about
    30”x20” with black lettering..

The pastor was an amazing guy , one Saturday morning in line at a mens breakfast in conversation I mentioned how great I thought it must be to be Pastor. He surprised me with his response when he said. “Not as great as you might think, a lot of people put on airs when they know you are a Pastor. They aren’t always forthright and make you read between the lines a lot.”
I think that made me appreciate you all the more, you said and still say the hard things out loud.

  8. “Kenny Marks and the Remarkables” I discovered your music as well as Kenny in the same year. I believe it was his first album “Right Where you are” Really good players on it(studio guys) Keith Thomas produced it. “It’s Incredible” was a track I always liked. Had 2 sax solos by Mark Douthit . One of my favorite drummers is on it(Dennis Holt of AD fame) as well as Mike Brignardello on Bass who played in Dann Huff’s Band Giant. I’ve been listening through each album as you give us the details and I have to say I’m still amazed at how good each Album is. All the songs have great arrangements and not a bad tune on them.

    1. I recognize all those players DC. Douthit played on my stuff he was using a new synth sax contraption on one song. I didn’t get to use most of those guys on the east coast. Jackie Street was a key bass man back then too

  9. My wife once called me out and asked why I made jokes at my own expense.
“Self-deprecating humor,” I said, “it keeps my ego in check.”
Without missing a beat, she responded, “It doesn’t work.”

  10. Bryan you still fulfill my requirements for minister of my nearly forgotten soul…you stop listen and care with actions to the back row…you are special and make others feel it…like the smooth voice + loud bringing in your music…you have your own voice own words own ideas to share with those who wants to know…a special gift nobody but you brings Lol
