  1. I love sarcasm but my old pastor didn’t. I wasn’t even being sarcastic to him but he chided me anyway. He even preached against “coarse jesting” the next week. I tried not to take it seriously. He was probably happy when we moved away.

    1. I was recently removed from a church I’d been going to for similar reasons.. said I had a bad attitude.. yea prolly, but sarcasm helps me deflect! LOL Thanks for yer understanding GPC

    2. Sounded to me like an issue of conformism. Took me a while to realize no matter how hard I try to fit in, I’m always gonna be on the outside looking in. I just pray God takes my sins and downfalls and throws them as far as the east is from the west. Praying to be a better person. I could careless anymore what people think. I’ll be happy when I want etc etc. I definitely need to remember that little prayer..

  2. My Delusional Friend,

How can you be a proper Christian if you don’t beat yourself up, walk around in sackcloth and ashes, with a sour frown on your face like you’ve been sucking lemons (sans tequila eh)?

Just as Jesus commanded in The Gospels, go and do likewise, because the heathen Gentiles will be attracted by your sincerity and bright hope for tomorrow right?

As soon as you said the “joy” word, I instantly thought of one of my favourite Christmas carols, as only the Veggie Tales team can properly perform!

While by my sheep, I watched at night
Glad tidings brought, an angel bright
    How great our joy
    Joy, joy, joy
Praise ye the Lord in Heaven on high!

I grew up in the Dutch CRC where sober somber worship is part of the Catechism I think. When we moved to a new community I thought it was time to break with tradition and attend the local Baptist church which we could walk to since it only was a couple blocks away, instead of driving 25 minutes to a neighbouring town to attend a proper CRC. The first Baptist Sunday service we went to was led by the Youth Group and there was an infectious enthusiasm like I’d never experienced in a CRC ever. So we concluded that this was a better place for our children to grow up in and attend with kids they would go to school and play sports with. I don’t regret that decision but things don’t always go as planned. That’s just the way it is, some things’ll never change …

Anyways, my dear CRC mother came to our Baptist church one Sunday while visiting. Well she noticed the difference right away, commented that the Spirit was moving in the house, returned home and started going to a Baptist church and never went CRC again (‘ceptin’ baptisms, weddings, and funerals eh!).

And to wrap, I’d never believed it even if you told me it was true, but the internet confirms, that even a Rolling Stone like Mick Jagger can sing about “Joy”! Described as “a rocking, gospel-tinged” collaboration with Bono (U2) featuring Pete Townshend (The Who) on guitar. I am not making this up! Check it out.

Joy to the Earth, the Savior reigns, Let men their songs employ …

  3. You make me laugh! Even when your being Sarcastic! I think sarcasm can be good in some ways. It helps to roll over some rough Rhodes. And let’s face it. Most of the time we are way to serious. Just Say’in.

  4. Awe heck yeah, this is hilarious!!! Keep it coming, bro. The truth is freeing and I love to laugh. Especially at myself. It’s the only way I keep sane!!

      1. Part of the Christian message as you know is utter metamorphasis, and not just when you accept Christ into your lilfe. Nothing is perfect until the Perfect comes and change is always difficult. But worth it. It we are to be true salt or gold it is constant purification. I am so glad I am not the person I was even a year ago. Eek!

      1. I know, Safe Harbour is not my favourite, but your lyrics are better than the original and I also quoted Then I Remember, and of course, Rock Steady.
