Meeting Love Song

Meeting Love Song

Now the late Chuck Girard, primary singer in the band Love Song wrote the most compelling Christian song I ever heard. Spoke to me more than all the sermons I sat under. The sweet serenity of a presence of God I felt in this song drove me to cross the country in search of my own place

in serving Jesus as he did.

    1. Oh and Bryan it’s so good you enjoyed yourself along the path to your career…working at an ice cream shop & eating it, surfing and coffee dates..all social and fun!!!

        1. Very cool and interesting recap Bryan. And really nice tribute to Chuck. My first introduction to Christian music was Chuck Girard with you and SCB not too long thereafter. I am grateful for how the Lord has used you guys!

    2. Excellent choice of Chucks songs my favorite let us be one. But this one is your choice and a fine one it is!

  1. You had such a clear vision for your future in Jesus music and CCM…you knew it was in California and you studied music in college until you saw a career open with Louis McVeigh…you listened studied and had a plan to work in a band…you network so well Bryan and have always seen a vision of what you want and can do. You’re doing it now with nutshellsermons.com! God bless you Bryan!

    1. oh it sounds better later when yer tellin a story.. I was clueless about what to do.. just kept writing songs and singin where I could surely didn’t look like a ‘Plan’

  2. Love Song was the third Christian artist I ever heard… Resurrection Band (aka Rez Band), Larry Norman and then Love Song! Of course, the initial album of SCB was the first I ever wore out on my turntable!

    1. I was aware of Larry Norman, and Rez too.. we would play gigs with em both.. but Love Songs music was closer to what I could relate to as a church kid…vocal harmonies were big stuff … Hi 4 E’s nice to see you on here .. been awhile

  3. Love your stories wrapped up in a nutshell sermon. Thanks for being real. A plastic Bryan just wouldn’t cut it.

    1. Hey Lonnie nice to hear from ya! seems like it’s what we do when we’re can’t do what we used to do.. or in some cases stopped wanting to.. that road life was wearing thin by thirty

  4. Pretty awesome! Did you enjoy the time you played under that tent? I know my best friend and I did. 1974 I think. I’ve slept since then!

    1. Hey Marty I need a little background from ya.. you were there.. I didn’t know too many and I often felt like an imposter at a hippie bible study.. who were you playin with? sorry if I should recognize yer name MJM music isn’t ringing a bell.. it’s be cool to hear a bit more bout yer experience there

  5. Hi Bryan, you crack me up!
This is the first time I’ve heard you do a podcast or whatever you call it!!
Anyway, I like your quick and humorous delivery. We met in Nashville back in the 1900s! (At GMA in the Frank Breeden days; who is now good friend ) you already had a record deal and I was praying that the Lord would leave me in the right direction which was not a record deal. but grateful for the choices that I made anyway… thanks for bringing us down memory lane. Blessings, Adele from the AK not the UK!!!

    1. Hi Adele, nice of you to reconnect.. man the 1900’s sounds like back in the civil war now LOL .. my mind is about that fuzzy bout the early days.. it’s why I started putting it down in little vignettes welcome to the back row here!

  6. WOW thank you so much for the step back in the 1970s Bryan! It does sound like Civil War days! The Lord nudged me to reminisce with my Jesus music history and introduce friends to the old days. Lo and behold a week later, Chuck Girard is promoted to His Presence. I love His faithfulness. It is fun to connect with the simplicity of the gospel in music again. Thank you!

  7. Hey Brian! So thankful for all the music. SCB will always be a key part of my beginning in Christianity. I learned about my new faith through albums like Breakin’ The Ice! Thanks Again, Rick White

  8. Great story my friend. Meeting and getting to know Chuck and the guys in “Love Song “were some of the most amazing years in my life. The first time I saw John do his drum solo I was flabbergasted. I was in a band at the time playing drums and lead singing and the impact that Chuck, Tommy, Jay and Fred had on my life was so incredible. So grateful to have been there. Thank you for sharing your story. God Bless ✌️

  9. Love these stories! My first introduction to CCM was 2nd Chapter Of Acts and Phil Keaggy. I worked at the local Bookstore, so we got a lot of samples and demos. I remember when SCB came in. That album was popular. Still one of my favorites to listen to while I draw or surf the net.

  10. We were laughing because we were just throwing that verse in 1Timothy around the other day each of us trying to find a translation that best fit our point of view. Bud loves to exercise….me not so much…..lol
Love Song was the 1st Christian album I bought I think…listened to it endlessly…then 2nd Chapter…I was introduced to SCB during my Act One Company days..kind of lost track of you tho until the Quiet Prayers collab…I heard A Heart Like Mine and never looked back….it blew me away. Anyway …it’s such a joy to be one of your lunatic friends now.
