SCB’s First Recorded Song

SCB’s First Recorded Song

What Life was like in a rock band in the early 70’s.

Sweet Comfort was a 3 piece band when we recorded “Golden Ages” for Maranatha 5 (a multi artist release).

Guitarist Randy Thomas would be added before we began to support this recording.

  1. Back in the 1970s was my independence decade…I couldn’t wait to get on my own…get an apartment…a job doing something I liked…wear my own fashion/style an hairstyle makeup too…all for me! I did it in stages of what was out there and what I could afford. My 1st apartment was a studio up and down…designed for 2 but couldn’t find a roommate so moved out cause it was $$ …next was a duplex that I consider my first cause it came with all these knowledge clauses like knowing how and when to light the heater…a gas stove in the space in the middle of the apartment…I found long kitchen matches…whole place was old and falling apart. Anyhoo moving on to end of 70s found luxury studio with the hip lime green shag carpet stucco walls, wicker folding screen and had my old furniture shipped…it was so crass! Found a Catholic Church with a single adult club and that’s what we did…let the good times roll. ..with streets paved with gold in oil and gas, where I worked I could afford to buy those haute looks for work and happy hour/parties/dances…something was missing…wouldn’t find out for 16 more years . Jesus!!

    1. after my divorce I was back to livin in a one bedroom place on my own again.. I learned in apartment living you could furnish yer whole place at the end of the month with stuff other people left by the dumpster when they moved out! LOL

  2. Honestly speaking I only attended one Christian band service before I was 25.. my boyfriend invited me to the service. The music was good. It was in a small church outside the city where I lived. My boyfriend wanted me to join the church and I didn’t have a car so I declined even if it meant going with him. Years later I joined a Bible study group an̈and went to concerts with my friends learning songs and music then later an outreach church through Christian Faith when I came to Christ. The pastor recommended a Bible believing college so I attend HCU. I’m still working on the promise I made God for getting me through.

  3. I love “Golden Ages”! The entire Maranatha 5 album was, IMHO, the best!
Did SCB ever play at , what were those Campus Life concerts in So Cal called? Breakaway? Anyway, I think I saw y’all there for the first time. Blessings!

  4. Maranatha 5 was a great album and I gravitated to Psalm 5 and Golden Ages when I heard it. I also loved Sydney the Pirate and Ain’t Gonna Fight It. Those are all songs that I’ve continued to listen to today. I can understand how it must have felt to record in a studio. I got to do that a few years ago with a band I was in and, most recently with some friends from church. In fact, I didn’t know what songs I was going to be playing on (bass for this session, keys for that other one) and I came in and nailed the moving bass line in one take for the first song recently. That was fun and I love to hear it over and over again. Thanks for the stories.

  5. I’ve heard Golden Ages. I remember the album cover to that record. The jukebox. This is a really good song. I also remember Mustard Seed Faith. Sail on Sailor was a favorite of mine as far as albums went. Lighter Side of Darkness was one of my fave’s off of that album

  6. Harvard Community University? I think not…HCU Christian was changed from Baptist HBU that’s on my diplomas! I will call tomorrow morning bright and early to let them know!! My gold class rings say Baptist with an open Bible and inscription of John 3:16. When I ordered them they said everyone would know I was Christian and I said wonderful!
