  1. Lotta great memories with this one!

Met my closest friend in line to a HR concert back in the day. I appreciated your somersault…& that opener named Phil Keaggy.

HR was on my 50th birthday bash playlist. Thanks for the memories and all you continue to do!

Also…it’s good to see you’re still wholly for Jesus…

  2. Loved this album so much! I wore my Holy Rollin’ t-shirt everywhere for a long time. Wish I still had it. Great memories and I absolutely love your stories about this!

  3. Love this ! Holy Rollin is great.
    I love Remember Me especially.
Love your behind the songs memories & you adding your vocals singing & keyboard clips etc
These Podcasts are so cool & fun too

  4. Love this nutshell today. Really picked me up when I needed it – just the energy. Came to my old stompin’ ground to handle hard family business and have been playing Holy Rollin’ album all week – nostalgic necessity!
    Thanks B!

  5. That “Lead Me to the Water” keyboard part you played has always been one of my favorite riffs, it’s just so good.
Holy Rollin’ is the project I learned about Bryan Duncan on. My girlfriend (bride now) gave me her cassette tape of it and said she thought I’d like it.
Well by the time this song played, I was hooked. Been listening ever since.
I enjoyed this episode a whole bunch sir. I’m starting to look forward to Thursday’s now more than ever.

  6. Still to this day when I hear, ‘Remember Me’ I get a chill in the best way. That song is awesome. Everyone I play that song for immediately asks, what is this? It’s like watching someone taste something sweet for the first time. I’ve used that song as a witnessing tool more times than I can remember. Good memories.
And now I’m going to go give it a listen again.

  7. There’s not enough space to adequately write about Holly Rollin’ – Such good tunes and music. Lead me to the water and Hope of the Broken hearted will be featured during my funeral. I keep meaning to plan it out in advance and write down my wishes for fear my daughter will play a medley of Taylor Swift tunes. I went to a small liberal arts College in Liberty Mo(William Jewell College). Was a business major going to school on a music scholarship to pay the bills. Somehow Chuck Barth shows up and does a presentation on MIDI back in 86 or 87. Not sure his connection to this school but I went just cause he was in your liner notes and figured I should know something about midi. He has kept busy all these years…

  8. Fun to hear all the background stuff to your music. I’ve either got to get my car CD players fixed or get a new record player to play your albums.

    1. LOL my car doesn’t have a CD player in it.. it’s all spotify and I won’t even subscribe to that… I am going to get all my songs in one place that I can control .. coming soon..

  9. Hey, “Cuz!” 🙂

Great memories from those days. One of my first encounters with Christian music was “Holy Rollin’!” Yes… it set the stage for me to become a rather on-fire, lunatic Christian who loves the Lord and preaches the Word.

      1. Oh one other thing… I really enjoy your commenters takes and wish there was some way to let them know that aside from submitting separate comments..

  10. I do love hearing your memories associated with the songs.. myself and family have a lot of memories associated with your songs as well, mostly good

  11. If the message is right, I think whether it’s samples or real takes a back seat. I use Cubase, but all the guitars, bass and piano I do. Today the orchestral VST plug-ins are incredible. But as you said nothing better than the real thing for human touch. I love the songs Bryan you’re an inspiration!!

  12. Wow 1986 I didn’t realize it had been that long since that hotta than sizzling fish grease of an album had come out ! I waited with great anticipation for Holy Rollin to come out as I remember, cause I knew it was gonna be good and a good follow up to Have Yourself Committed. Man I wasn’t disappointed it was all that and two bag of chips!

  13. Have this on vinyl. Purchased in ’86. Burned to CD and sing along to Bryan so often, I know every word by heart

  14. Your stories never cease to amaze me! I know that you came through some pretty rough times back then, but to me you’ve had a very impressive Journey in life. You’re always telling something new and different, very different from the norm sir. Keep them coming I’m still enjoying them!

  15. Enjoyed this Nutshell, Bryan! -Especially the part about bringin’ in Tower of Power horns and that you were intimidated by them. I looooove Tower of Power and think your voice on some of their stuff would be an amazing experience! Many years ago I had a surprise encounter with Emilio Castillo (TOP founder and frontman) and ended up having dinner with him and hearing his testimony on how Jesus found him and turned him around. They’re still touring – my wife and I have tickets to a show of theirs about a month from now here in Scottsdale, AZ.
    Keeping singing the funk, Bryan!

  16. This Release was a Definite Sound Track in that time of my Life. Everyone one in North Central Bible College was Listening to it too. You really Out did yourself on this Album…. just incredibly Fantastic & Spectacular*

  17. I’m so impressed at the gifts God has given you- not just musically- dang, hearing you just break into the rhythms and riffs is so super-cool- but the candid storytelling and songwriting with humor and insights that are so relatable that grab us. Thanks for continuing to share your gifts!
