  1. Self sufficient…is that an oxymoron? I don’t really know, but I like the word oxymoron, and have too few times where I can use it.
But really, self sufficient, I honestly don’t think we can be, I mean we’re dependent on God for the air we breathe, the food we eat, the money we have, etc. the only true self sufficiency we have is in Jesus His “Self” and what He did for us.
I usually don’t fall and make a donkey of myself until I’m in the middle of handling everything all by myself. Then it’s time to throw up the prayer, “I need You now Lord.”
    Great post, keep ‘em coming!

    1. I always wondered if I’d be happy and fulfilled being independently wealthy. Probably not, just a whole nother set of worries. Would be nice though not to need to worry about the bills. I find it a whole bunch easier to listen to a pastor or speaker that has his own daily struggles, working etc. Here our pastor worked like the rest of us… no salary from the congregation. During the festival of booths (succot) which is a joyous time, Not so much this year, we read the book of ecclesiasties, tends to keep you focused.. God bless. Ya nailed another one.

  2. Hey lunatic friend. Good post. It is the Laodicean church that says, “I am rich, wealthy and in need of nothing” fools it’s self, cuz Jesus says, “you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked”. I would rather have little and have the favor of the Lord……and hear him say….” My good and faithful servant”. Keep up the good work…..I enjoy your nutshellsermons.

  3. Hi to my Lunatic Friend!
I love these Lil sermons! Ya make me laugh, and do ya ‘member what I said about endorphins? Better than morphine….and, they last longer.
Thanks for making my really painful days less painful and a lot more joyful, Bryan! Air hugs. Dee Dee

  4. Sometimes in this world, it is easy to get caught up in being busy and forget the important things like family, friends, and God. We get so busy with doing, we ignore the why. And even easier with all the technology we have today. Lord, please help me stay focused on the real important things in life. Amen.

  5. As always, only you have a way to make me laugh at the way you see the world. I have definitely not been cursed with wealth or health, but I am what I am and I know my place in line.
    Digging the Nutshells my friend!!

  6. “Pity the fool” I guess that is from the Mr T translation. I have to say that I bought your book when you first released it and hearing it out loud connects with me in a deeper way. I’m 56 so there’s more of life behind me than in front of me so it is easy to gauge success in a worldly manner and compare yourself with others. The Devil just loves to tell you that others have done so much better. Humility and obedience to God seems like a good path to success. 2 are better than one yet we(men) often do it solo much of the time. Great stuff!

    1. You Too? Hi DC .. I told myself I would never regret or feel ‘less than’ but I don’t think you can help it comparing your life to others in your ‘fourth quarter’ of life. Find myself thinkin what did I do wrong?

  7. I just read a book by Greg Laurie titled “Fame, Fortunes, Failure and Faith” I think Our Father knows how you would be if you achieved world wide fame. You might forget about him? Oh I am so serious aren’t I? And here I am talking to my favorite singer who achieved statewide fame!!!

  8. Our youth pastor used to own a yogurt shop before they were famous. He was doing really well, but he was also a pastor at our church so he was working 2 jobs. He finally had to decide which way he was going to go and decided to sell the yogurt shop. I think to someone Who started or was an owner for TCBY Yogurt shops. When they got famous, he said that God knew if He made him wealthy, that he’d probably not be a good steward of the money. He’s about to retire from pastoring. He’s been the care pastor, which is a little bit less busy for him, which is good at this point in his life.
We’ve had our struggles, but God has always provided during the times we thought we’d have to move back in with my mother-in-law or almost be on the street. I can’t even imagine that. It felt that way, but I never thought it would ever happen and it didn’t. He has blessed us to the point where we can bless others.

  9. I realise that this prayer was very tongue in cheek. I struggle with that one also. But the answer you alluded to in just that, putting all your faith and expectation in the Lord. Not easy. The writer here finds it quite a challenge.
