It’s always good to know the context of a verse and to use God’s word appropriately. We run amuck in this area alot I fear. Sometimes out of ignorance and sometimes because our interpretation is more to our liking.
My Mom used to say that whenever she wanted to stay overnight at a friend’s house her Dad would quote, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Which meant no, and goes to show that even German Baptist preachers use scripture to their own end at times….lol
Yeah I liked the pea shooter comment as well. Ya know today everything is taken out of context. Scripture, quotes from favorite people. Anything to justify a behavior. The media is really good at quoting out of context to get knee jerk reactions. I find it really problematic that in services a lot of people don’t bring a bible, or a pen a paper to take notes and double check at home the things the speaker said. We call it being a student of the word. Hence the verse you mentioned in Hebrews.

I have a friend who calls every day and we discuss our infirmary, and she says Jesus is here so we are taken care of…we both learned this in church, when two or more, and the great thing is that we both feel better and calm and protected.
Maybe the last part is also key – “in my name” . What does that even mean? Gathered together “in his name” ……. to Praÿ? To. Study? To Serve? To Worship? Or as we see it today, for any reason whatsoever?
Lol ” sin sniffer” lol
Crazy that the only sin people try to sniff out are the ones other people do. They never seems to point out their own.
Verses get out of context when religious folks try to use verses to beat up other people instead of letting Scripture change each of us individually.
Every one of us and our sins caused Jesus to come sacrifice Himself for us.
We all did that not just the ones who had their sin sniffed out by self righteous people haha.
Jesus loves His kids on the back row too
With us individually? Absolutely? My comment was meant to suggest that we use “in his name” as a blanket covering for group activities that are not really so. It does not honor him.
However, if he isn’t with us individually, then it’s we who have left him.
It’s about handling conflicts at church?! Wait, you mean to tell me that conflict isn’t supposed to be the beginning of another church split aka beginning of yet another church in town that believes they have the direct line to God and no one else does? Hang on. Let me listen again.
Where 2 or more is..judicial?!
Somebody put down the peashooter! I can’t keep up!
You mean I’m not hiding from Him when I hire from church?
WHAT?!
Thanks for sharing from the back row. I’ll meet you at IHOP sometime. I may be in need of someone to help me pray over my pancakes (problems). Or if I’m honest, pray for me because I’m not just my own problem!

yes JZ it’s still true that acknowledging Jesus definately feels stronger when we agree together

I’m assuming “in his name” has to do with our focus on him specifically. but like I say.. He is with us when nobody’s around.. that’s my sense
