Curious to whom you are referring . Fallin from grace. I like the thought that maybe my own sadness is due to my own inability to walk the straight and narrow consistently.
I’ve seen too many falls.. Jimmy Swaggert passed away, and after 60 plus years of ministry, the news focused completely on his famous failure and they seemed to be smug in tellin the story.. my depression/grief was a result of the news on Michael Tait of the Newsboys and formerly with DC Talk.. secrets brought to light, and the fall out its causing. Both groups opened for me at one point.
I grew up on CCM, “idolizing” many of the artists and musicians I would listen to and aspire to be like. This particular group was at the absolute top of my list. In the last 2 years, I’ve been going back to my roots, finding out what became of all of my childhood idols. Sadly, so many of them have fallen. It’s surprising, yet not so surprising. Even at the local level, churches and church leaders continue to fall. Personally, I’ve played at several churches that have had some sort of scandal or another. It’s a reflection of our sinful nature. That we can never truly over come sin without Jesus and keeping that focus on him. Like Peter, look away for a moment and we sink. I do truly hope Tait’s repentance is sincere and he finds his way back to God. As for what I can learn from this is: 1) I can’t put my faith in any man other than Jesus, 2) It’s a cautionary tale of what happens if I don’t keep my focus on Jesus.
I have a short list of childhood CCM role models that are still doing good work and continue to inspire me. Bryan, I count you on that list. I appreciate what you do with Nutshell Sermons.
THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAPPENS THAT YOU HATE TO SEE HAPPINING TO ANYONE .YOU HOPE FOR THE BEST THAT THE PERSON INVOLVED HERE SEEKS AND RECEIVES ALL THAT THEY NEED FOR RESTORATION & FORGIVENESS. NOW HERE COMES THE OTHER HARD PART THE PART THAT SAYS WHAT HAS THE IMPACT OF SUCH AN EVENT HAD ON THOSE WHO HAVE PUT MORE STOCK IN OR ON SUCH PERSONS THAN THEY NEEDED TO BECAUSE OF WHO THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE ? THE MERE POSITION AND INFLUENCE FAIR OR UNFAIR THAT THE ARTIS HAS CARRIES A WEIGHT THAT IS SO HEAVY IT IS AMAZING THAT MANY MORE HAVE NOT FALLEN. EVEN SO IT IS A CHOSEN PROFESSION THAT PUTS AUTOMATIC RESPONSIBILITIES ON THAT INDIVIDUAL WETHER THEY WANT THEM OR NOT, IT’S UNSPOKENLY THERE! SO THE QUESTION ALWAYS GONNA COME BACK AND MUST BE ADDRESSED IS WHY DO I DO THIS?WHAT IS MY REAL MOTIVATION FOR DOING WHAT I DO ? AM I REALLY WILLING TO EXCEPT THE ENORMOUS RESPONSIBITIES THAT COME WITH DOING WHAT I DO ? ASSUMING ONE’S MOTIVATION IS RIGHT AND STAYING TRUE TO THAT THROUGH OUT ONE’S CARREER WILL TAKE GOD’S HELP BIG TIME AND SETTING UP LONG TERM TOUGH GENUWINE ACCOUNTIBILITY PERSONS WHO AIN’T AFFRAID TO GET IN YO FACE AND TELL YOU WHAT THE DEAL IS GOT TO BE ESTABLISHED FROM THE BEGINNING! LOT MORE PREVENTIVE MEASURES SOME KINDA WAY GOT TO BE EXPLORED AND INPLEMENTED FROM THE JUMP ! KEEP THE LIGHT ON SO THE ROOM WON’T GO DARK THEY SAY !
In the SCB Documentary intview last week I was asked why I write songs.. and I didn’t go with the standard cut n paste ‘serving God in my callin’ it was actually more powerful .. we’ll you’ll hear it eventually
