Thank you so much for these sermons. This one just hit me right where I’m at. I could picture a believer with a group of other believers in this metaphor of riding a bike and keeping up with the pack. But to take it a step further, I see that person falling down and the rest of the pack continuing to move forward, seemingly unaware that one of their members has fallen, oblivious to anything other than the illusion they are in. The church as I have known it for almost 40 years, does not have any place for certain things, such as single people, divorced, or even widows. My time in the church as a single lady seem to be about struggling to try to keep up with the rest of the pack, meanwhile continually looked down on for being who I couldn’t help but to be. God never put a guy in my life whom he wanted me to marry. I began to move toward the Catholic church recently because at least they have a place for somebody who has the calling to live what they call a “consecrated life” of singleness. In the Protestant Church you better be married with kids, or else. To go ahead and drop off from the pack, and just let them keep moving and doing whatever it is they’re doing, seems to be the best choice for me. And here I am alone, but at least I’m with God (and perhaps many saints and angels). I don’t know about them, but I know I’m with God. And I know life isn’t easy and it’s about struggling, and dare I say it’s about so much more than the church as an entity seems to realize. Thanks for letting me share, and the continuous non-dismissal 🙂
It actually seems a little simpler than the married people with children who they focus most of their time on. Don’t get me wrong, there’s no bitterness here. Just an observation. Trying a new Catholic church this Sunday.
Sounds like you had the whole works going on there with that mountain biking. I’m liking “moral inventory”—interesting little quip. I also liked “my mind is like a trash compactor”—LOL. I like the groove of this song, though, putting that other stuff to the side. I’m sorry you were going through a lot during that time. I’m telling you I plain lost it, though on “tongue cluckers”! I’m still laughing! It’s too much! Well, as they say on the farm, “Ain’t nobody here but us chickens—perched on the back row.”
This is one of the songs from the album I heard first in 2008 when I first started to know you. I’m glad to hear the background of the lyrics now…high road could mean several things…thank you so much for this song and for doing a nutshell to explain it to me. Another genius of your songwriting my special friend .
also the high road to me represents a church world that maintains a moral front regardless of the deeper struggles .. not always pretentious but it’s easy to find where we’re all supposed to be above the fray of sin
Boy B, I never knew the impact that hearing something for the second time could offer more than when heard the first time. That is kinda what happen here. I listened to this nutshell earlier today just”shillin”(nutshellian for chillin)minding my on business enjoying the vibe of the broadcast and soaking up the info. As always very entertaining in form but impactful in description of the thought processes behind the words. On this back row the second listen around this evening my focus was a bit sharper I guess because I picked up so much more in what you were trying to say in the song. Great analogies you give and dead on, cause we all if truthful been through what you say in this song and know people personally you indirectly hint about in this song ! “PREACHING IS EASY” can be better than nice if anyone doing the Preaching would simultaneous do the other thing and that is “HELP ME UP NOT IF YOU READ IT BUT BECAUSE YOU READ IT”! More of the second part and less of the “WOP WOP WOP WOP WOP”!
And I can say B, just like the lady candidate in Michigan alluded when you were indirectly talkin back to the person’s doing the preachin you know the WOP WOP WOP WOP WOP guys!” YOU WERE STICKIN IT TO EM “! I like that in terms of Don’t talk down to me if you feel you are up high, don’t talk over me cause you may feel superior to whatever mess I may have got myself into but come down and talk to me and with me eye to eye heart to heart ! Better chance there I will really hear you! I think only then can Preachin be at least a little Easier !
Relating to what I am hearing here. Both my wife and I have heard the tongue cluckers from amongst our brothers and sisters in Papa’s beautiful family over the years. Funnily though, nevef intuitively heard any tongue clucking from Papa God, Yeshua and Holy Spirit any time – has in the last season we stepped out of and in this new season that have been picking up on the gentle, humble, easy to please, self giving unassuming servant heart that Each Trinity Member has – this has helped avoid listening to the tongue cluckers……..
Yep – heard the gentle whisper wrapped into your comment Mr D “Son, this is the best part of the journey together. Let’s finish well together”.
I hope I can pass the physical! LOL
Good point. But Papa God…..always the encourager and He has such a strong belief in each of us. According to Papa’s Book of Love (a nod to a Led Zepplin song) Elijah outran Ahab’s chariot on the way bavk to Samaria. Doesn’t reveal his age – perhaps in the Kingdom scale of things, age does not matter, but Holy Spirit empowering does…..still chewing the cud on this morsel of pondering…..
interesting Biblical morsel
Well put – yet Papa God and His partnership that He invites us into with Him. Elijah was a man just like us, but in Papa God’s Book of Love (a nod to a 70s Led Zepplin offering, the lyric here intrigued me….) it tells us that Elijah was a man like us, yet he outran Ahab and his chariot on the return to Samaria in order to beat the rain. Not told Elijah’s age either. Sensed a Divine invitation into a conversation about this exploit………
