This really hit home! In my household I’m constantly looking to make sure the “checklist” is checked off at the end of the night. Did this? Yes; Got that? Yes; Took pills? Yes; Didn’t leave wallet & cellphone in car? No; Is alarm set on phone? Yes. And that’s just me checking on my husband, let alone what I need to remember for me and making sure the dog’s okay. It seems that life was so much more simple before cellphones came along. Those were the days! I’ve become dependent on these Nutshell Sermons to give me a daily/weekly boost and you come through every time. Great job! I might temporarily misplace my cell phone but I know I’m not misplaced in God’s eyes. BTW, still on the back row and enjoying it!
I thought cell phones with all the smarts would help us keep track of stuff but .. no
People need people in this world today to do almost everything. That’s been the case since Henry David Thoreau. Lol
I’m thinkin of all the people that swore off marriage.. man I was never more glad I put up with stuff.. cause when yer old .. nobody’e comin
Today’s sermon takes the thought out of my mind. The state of my cell phone is more important than my own well being. My new headphones were expedited last night and I’m charging them now. My glasses are perfectly designed. I take plenty of effort to shop by getting what I need and can afford. When I can’t find them I panic. They are my support necessities.
and now I have someone to second the motion
Yeah we definitely have a few things in our lives that are security blankets. All the wrong things. Independence is figment of our imagination.
Free.. to drink the kool-Aid
B, I really relate about dropping everything to find that item that I have forgotten where I put at via cell phones or wallets ! I don’t know how many times I used my house phone to call my cell phone to locate where my cell phone is ! I don’t know about you but sometimes a mini panic comes over you when you can’t locate that wallet. You ask yourself after retracing your steps for about 20 minutes how did I all of a sudden become this David Copperfield and make things disappear where I can’t find them! I Distinctly remember a time where our dependence on a phone with us at all times having never ever came to mind! We never worried about stuff like that if you really needed to call someone right then you either rushed to get home to use your phone or found a phone booth and plopped in a quarter! Isn’t it funny the more techno savvy to make things easier the more our dependance for them grows ! Not so independent is a good characteristic of all of us cause it’s so US! Besides B, you said it pretty well a couple of decades ago. We will remain dependent cause ‘WE ALL NEED ” !
Neediness is gettin old!
I get it, It is a humbling thing sometimes to admit that Hay I really NEED your help when you rather be able to do it yourself if it is possible . That very thing always have been a thing with me even when I was a kid . I would always try to fix whatever the situation warranted by myself! I’m a little better today with that but I still have to watch myself and play Wack a mole sometimes when that me fixing it myself all the time comes up . I THINK IT MIGHT BE A GUY THING ,WE JUST DON’T LIKE TO BE EVEN PERCEIVED AS BEING NEEDY ABOUT ANYTHING FOR REAL! I think subconsciously we might feel our manhood is being attacked by neediness!
True That A NON.. True ALl o THAT
I think a lot about the concept of idolatry. Simply stated, anything that means too much to me is an idol. If I can’t let it go, it means I am clinging to something more than God. On a more practical level, I sometimes worry about people who are too attached to their phones, to the internet, etc. it would be too easy this day in age for “the powers that be” to send an electromagnetic pulse or something and in a moment those things we are dependent on will not be there. Talk about a mental health crisis. Not to be political, but anything we are dependent on can be used to control us. Take for example someone who has become dependent on cannabis. They may have a pretty comfortable life in the basement playing video games high all the time. But if these things were taken away, I can’t even imagine the results. This may be a good reason for fasting from time to time, if only to prove to yourself you can go without food. The only substance I’m not sure I could do without is coffee. I will have to work on that. But no, could never live without God. If I move away a little, I come back and things are suddenly centered again.
not sci Fi either.. I’m thinkin of the pager incident in the middle east
