Wow!! Laying It On The Line. What an awesome groove. The sound of it took me back to the late 1970’s. SCB were right on my radar as a young adult new believer then. Still on my radar BTW. I do have The Waiting Is Over cd in my cd collection. Will pull it out and listen again. Well done!!
Yeah, maybe so but the overall sound carried a real freshness of life with it. I reckon that counts for somethin’…….and the offering was filled to the brim and overflowed with Kingdom heart and soul. That gets a nod from me.

Yeah. Possibly. However, with Holy Spirit being our True Source of inspiration as He is with you guys, He makes even the 70’s style of rocknroll style sound fresh and alive with delight and wonder. That is my experience in listening to this track. Keep bringin’ them out, fresh and new just like this one Mr D.
I followed you as a solo artist, Bryan. So the SCB is all new to me. As an aside, my brother really liked the song “Valerie” and confessed to me he may have had a crush on a friend of ours named Valerie, even while he was marrying someone else. And, sorry to say, that’s why my brother liked your song so much. Well, anyway. I am a big words person so I had to look up the lyrics. I have never seen a song do this. All three verses were approached as though spoken from different members of the band. This speaks to your ingenuity and courage to create which I really respect. Let me copy the chorus here so I can refer to it.
“I fought the good fight with your strength and your power
With all of my might- every day, every hour
I never gave up laid it all on the line.”
I feel that the very best songs are the ones that do not resolve. This song does not resolve for me because there is so much potentiality as far as what exactly it means for each band member to lay it all on the line. And it begs the question as to whether or not each successfully did this. I’m thinking of the scripture in Revelation where it says God would rather have you hot or cold. If you’re lukewarm he will spew you out of his mouth. Are we required to lay it all on the line every day and in every area of our life? Does it mean poverty at times, handling great wealth at others? Does it mean being unpopular, and then being able to handle popularity with grace? Thank you for giving me something new to think about. I look forward to discovering the rest of the songs from the SCB.
btw yes the verses in this song were written by each member of the band… the most profound impact of SCB is the long term statement that we all still stand by our convictions in the name of Jesus.. and in his grace
There is a tendency with all of us artists I think to focus on the superficial aspects of numbers and attention from record companies and so forth. But when someone, or in this case everyone in the band, can keep sight of what is truly important, something magical happens. The highs and lows don’t actually even matter in God’s sight. My inability to keep the focus on God as a solo artist is the cause of my own continual failure. By that I mean a failure to follow God and keep him first, which is probably the only true kind of failure there is. I assume it must be easier to stay focused as a band though, than as an individual. What was that scripture in Ecclesiastes about a three-fold cord or something? It is not easily broken.
Always love this song cause all the band distinctive voices were displayed ! it was definitely a blast to hear RANDY and RICK individually hum a few bars ! love the thing yall did to honor your band mate Kevin true class right there .All and all just a great fun song with a more poignant message to go with it ! 2 thumps up !

I too took voice maintenence for a couple of years.. so as to get myself out of vocal trouble when I would get really busy
