Ha, ha—I love it! I’ve learned not to wait on anyone too long or it’ll never get done. So true. Patience tends not to be one of my strong points. I get that from my dad. Although, sometimes I do have it on rare occasions. Your Nutshell Sermons are good for me. I too, like you, come from a line of preachers in my family. My great, great grandfather was a “circuit-riding”(on a horse) preacher who went through Virginia & Kentucky. I would have loved to have known that man. Sometimes I need to be preached to—LOL. The song “Perfect Timing” (SCB) comes to mind: “And when it comes to loving me; You’re the best of all; You’re always in the right place at the right time; To catch me when I fall; You’ve got perfect timing; You’re not a minute too soon; Not a moment too late.” Amen from the back row! P.S. For kicks, I’ll try to send a photo to your email of my great grandfather on horseback. The photo is on the front of a book that a distant cousin of my dad’s wrote.

If you read the old testament e.g. Genesis, all of the Abraham Issac and Jacob. They were doers. God would say go, and they’d go. They had to do and take initiative. So if anyone is sittin’ around waiting for a detail instruction manual. Just go and get ‘er done. LOL…
What this message brings to mind for me is my own desperation in wanting to serve God so badly. Do I actually want to serve him more than he wants me to serve him? It’s like the quote from Jerry Maguire, “Help me help you!!” I was recently dismissed from a nursing home ministry where I stood in front of them and read scripture. The gathering was sparsely attended, and a meeting between the leadership and residents revealed that they would rather have activities during that time. I was too relieved to feel hurt or rejected. I knew they weren’t into it and I really didn’t want to do it anymore. Why was I reading scripture every other Sunday to people who simply didn’t care to hear it? I guess the reason was that I just wanted to serve God so badly and he in his great wisdom had not given me enough to do! Could waiting on the Lord mean trusting him while I have nothing to do, knowing he can handle my life even during great inactivity for His kingdom? Will I still be received by him in the day of judgment if my works here were too few? If I don’t serve him enough, for whatever reason, is his love enough to carry me? Is it okay to learn to be a human being, and not a human doing? Maybe my wanting to be working for him all the time is just another idol which I need to lay down at his feet. Does anyone else have a hard time resting on Sunday?
