  1. Love your stories. I have to admit I laughed out loud when you screamed that James Brown part in reference to Rev. Duncan.
I would have loved to hear him preaching. Keep the stories coming.

      1. hey DEV! cool .. I knew you’d like that sarcasm! I’m jus tryin to show how many different styles I heard back then… no wonder my records were all over the map.. Love you … proud of you… happy birthday too

    1. well its not like anyone else’s at Maranatha music or any of the musicians that I worked around.. I was on the outside of the sensationalism so to speak. thanks for listening.. let me know if the five minute thing works.. I start to feel long winded after that.. I annoyed myself! LOL

  2. Love like we we dying and not just live like it’s my last day on earth. These were in the thoughts of most A/G kids back in the 70’s

    1. So yer a fellow A’o G kid… my folks weren’t sure what to make of me goin to cali and then quittin college to start a rock band.. you know how bad that Looks! LOL

  3. Great history! I went from 70s rock to Doug Oldham when I got married in the early 80s cause that is what I was told Christians listened to. Wow! Imagine how thrilled I was when I discovered your music in the 90s!

    1. Thanks Rebecca for sharing, I am trying to show how many styles there have been in my past so you might see why my music was not always easy to market! I just finished the 2 episode of Jesus and Music in the 70’s .. these take longer to do.. but I hope you’ll enjoy the ride the way I bring it!

  4. Your James Brown reference was fantastic! I attend an Assemblies church. I suspect we are a little “milder” than what you grew up. I like your “new ministry”… but I think I’d consider it more of a continuation of your “old ministry”. 🙂

    1. Hi Sherri the Jesus and Music is going to be an ongoing story line about the s 70’s they will average about 5 minutes in length .. then Nutshell Sermons will remain 2 min. thanks for always bein here for everything though

  5. I bless you and your future. SCB was world class. So grateful to have met you.
    * LISTENERS. Let’s send Bryan some cash with each podcast post we here…!

  6. just saw the movie; I cried A LOT. My introduction to Jesus was around ’72 (military brat, no REAL connection), I was asked to sing with some guys in our little SBC where we covered Love Song, Larry Norman, 2nd Chapter of Acts and others. I didn’t find out about SCB until later, and let me tell you Bryan, YOU kept me going. I ran a live R&R nite club near the STL, but it was YOU, Mylon, D&K that continued to remind me that there was a toll being taken on my spirit, and I needed to get out. I did. Saw you several times in Oklahoma (even “produced” a show with you in my hometown) and STILL love listening to you today. You might not have been mentioned in this movie, but it was more about Greg than the actual movement. Make no mistake, you have made your mark; continue the fight my friend.

    1. WOw great encouragement to me Vance, thanks for sharing that. I’m not hurt that I’m not in that movie. Not enough movies to cover all the stories like yours for instance. thank God I can share my fragments from those days. stay in touch here I’m posting a song from SCB that you likely never heard coming up next. and then thursdays I will be sharing 5 minutes on my time in the 70s

  7. This sermon sounds like the words to We All Need and Mr Bailey’s daughter. I would have thought the story of your extraordinary talent is an amazing story and it has not ended.

  8. I’m lovin’ it, Bryan! The “Danny Boy”and “pasty white music” is what I grew up too also, until my parents played Elvis’ spiritual songs! It was an 8 Track player.

I bought an 8 Track cassette converter and jammed to Petra, WhiteHeart and even some blue eyed soul (Other than Hall and Oates.) by former lead singer of the Sweet Comfort Band! God bless you!

  9. I’m just living these “Nutshell sermons” you have always had my attention through music ..still do! But these podcast give a message at the same time keep humor in our lives thank you!

  10. Oh, Bryan, you brought up a lot of memories in this first part. I’m just getting back to listening because being off of Twitter I don’t get the reminders about your podcast and I don’t tune into all my podcasts automatically. I have to go pick up my grandson right now, but I’ll make more comments later.

    1. Hi Robbin you know you can have these nutshells delivered to your email.. go to the main page you’ll see how to sign up.. they they send you an email that you have to click “Confirm” link in blue and you will in all the time!

      1. Why didn’t I think of that? Duh! That’s how I get Jon Fugler’s podcasts. Thanks for that reminder.

  11. Loved my buckskin, fringed leather jacket – but I wore it way to much.
Watched Lawrence Welk with my parents – but definitely much more Ed Sullivan
I too, would love to see an expanded movie on the Jesus Revolution (Music) I thought the movie was really good – but – it could of been called the Greg Laurie story. I believe it only covers a 2 or 3 year period of time. Like you said – it would take a lot of movies to cover all that took place at that time.

    1. that has a nice rhyme of truth in it.. ‘the Greg Laurie Story’ LOL I’ve heard that from several btw. there were dozens of bands playin at Calvary Chapel.. and to leave them out of the story of the movement is just a tragedy.. no one flocked to Gregs sermons without the music first

      1. Hey there Bryan. Growing up in the severities and eighties, I got saved in 1986. Started listening to CCM and couldn’t get enough. I was an awkward, fat kid that sang in church from Florida that got saved at 14, went to Southeastern at 21 and left after two semesters on academic probation. I don’t blame them, I got overwhelmed with new found freedom and took advantage and didn’t do my school work. I had heard about your legend there and found your music. Love Takes Time was the first song I heard from you. I found your nutshell sermons and are loving them. I went and seen Jesus Revolution and was overwhelmed by it I have to admit. Now I try to find as many seventies/eighties Christian albums I can find. I just wanted to tell you thanks for what you do.

        1. Hi DT! thanks for signin in. so we’re alumns lol.. I was invited back like 30 years later to sing at a banquet.. it’s changed remarkably since then i guess. I’ll be going through all of the 1970’s and the start of my own band in California.. I just finished episode 14 and I’m still in 1975! Stay tuned and thanks for lending an ear

  12. Not 5 minutes before listening to this I responded to a friend’s meme on Facebook about being forced to watch Lawrence Welk every week at Grandma’s house! A one and a two and a…

  13. I’m really enjoying these nutshell sermons! I’ve loved your voice and music since I first heard you, (back in 86) but I didn’t know just how funny you are. Your thoughts, sarcasm and wit resonate with me. Love it!

    1. Hey RS!!! welcome to the outside lookin in! LOL I’ll never have a mega church being sarcastic like I am.. but I’d rather have Gideon’s 300 with God’s Blessing.. than Goliath’s whole army. really excited that yer gettin these.. that puts you in a select group that’ll prolly never be the majority! LOL see you on twitter too
