  1. We’ll let me be the first to say, YES! We want to hear about the solo career too!
Great post by the way, staying the course hasn’t always been easy, but it sure has been good. Thanks Bryan, keep ‘em coming!

    1. I’m surprised at the number of people who react to stories of the olden days.. I plan to continue into my solo career. I’ve heard of several CCM artists from back in the day who’ve become almost anit Christian. Gotta trust God with other people.. ‘nother reason I follow Jesus! .. I can’t fix me

  2. I love these stories more with each one. So interesting to hear the background details. And yes when you finish the SCB years you must continue with the solo years!
Your Spiritual insights remind me of your dad. Not that you and him agreed on everything but you have the ‘preach’ in you just like he did. Your spiritual ‘nutshells’ are deep. And I appreciate your wisdom and your humor and music and especially your friendship.
You might be 70 but you have to live to at least 120. Haha. And whenever we get to eternity I asked the Lord to let me live next to you. I will have song requests forever. Haha

    1. LOL I was just singing “I’ve Got a Mansion.. Just over the hill top!” .. I had to keep the fan on outside on my back porch last few posts.. hope that wasn’t too annoying

      1. Nope couldn’t tell the fan was running haha. Maybe it would sound like being under the big tent back in the day lol

  3. Thank you so, so much for this trip back through the 70s. It has been extremely enlightening and I have shared them with friends that became interested in CCM of that time after viewing Jesus Revolution. I hope you will continue sharing your insight and lessons learned along the road.

    1. thanks for sharing my stories.. I started doing this because I was horrified at how discounted Jesus Revolution was about including music .. SCB was playin at Gregs church from the beginning. none of the people who helped build that CC in Riverside were remotely mentioned. there were also tons of bands that played at the church. Road Home, Mustard Seed Faith, SCB, Parable, Bob Cull, Andre Crouch, Keith Green, Daniel Amos, Whalin’ Jonah.. to think they had nothing to do with the draw? ok.. I’m done LOL

      1. You are right about the lack of time spent on the music. Perhaps that could be another movie …. ‘a sister film if you will” to go along with Jesus Revolution. Hey, it’s history of that time and the story should be preserved!!!

BTW, I am hoping that you will continue your recollections from the SCB days and also into your solo years. The back stories of life on the road in ministry and even the behind the scenes look into the music business are very interesting. I certainly hope that younger musicians are paying attention and learning from you guys that paved the way.

        1. thanks for the vote of confidence. I never thought these would be so popular but …yea, they get a huge response. I’m likely to go thru my solo career.. I can do this but it’s exhausting tryin to remember the time lines

  4. I enjoy receiving and listneing to your take on different topics. I have been a fan of yours for a long time. I have only been able to attend one concert and it was definately worth it. Keep up the good work! May God continue to bless you.

  5. I enjoyed the Jesus Revolution film for sure. But…it was glaringly obvious that their was a huge hole in how the film represented the participating musicians and bands during that era. Those of us who grew up through that era know the full story! So it’s very cool that you’re taking time out to share these important snippets from that amazing time.

    1. thanks.. wish I could tell more of the story of the so many other bands.. but I seldom had experiences with them on the road.. but if Greg L. thinks he drew that audience on his own? …. I’ll leave it right there

  6. I would think your evangelistic heart made your dad proud. I too love John 6:66. I’m amazed at how many people get to their end of life and still don’t have it settled in their heart whether the words of Jesus are are unto Eternal Life. I’ve mentioned in the past you should write a biography and I have to say these nutshell sermons of the 70’s have been a cliff notes version which I appreciate. Look forward to the 1980’s/ solo career and beyond.

    1. Thanks for the insights DC.. you know I have too short attention span to write a book with the excruciating detail… if it wasn’t for album projects I wouldn’t remember the timeline at this point!

  7. I had to laugh out loud when you said ‘you guys thought you were going to change the world’. You did change my world! It amazed me that I could realize the Lord speaking directly to me, using someone else’s voice in song like that.

  8. After listening, Feel like I just finished a book I didn’t want to end. Definitely need book two. Bittersweet stories, but I do hold on to psalm 119:105. In addition the, realization that our struggles and pains actually help us,grow is an encouraging thought. Thanks for reminding me. We tend to forget that when we’re in the middle of a crisis.

  9. Wow! There was a lot in this one! I didn’t have band members that I was friends with throughout the years after being converted, but a lot of friends I had I can see what you’re saying. Some came to the Lord and stuck with him the whole time and even now are still following him. Some came to the Lord and then decided forget it and went other ways. And then some came to God, left for a while, but came back. I enjoy listening to their stories and seeing how God worked in their lives for the past 50 years.
I like Psalm 119: 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Also, vs 15 & 16 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word. I have a hard time memorizing now, but I have a friend who memorizes every day and she even showed me her files where she has verses that she memorized…big files. But some verses do come back to me, so I’m glad about that.

  10. Another great history lesson on SCB! I definitely vote yes, carry on into the solo years! Way too much to miss out on if you don’t. Loving all th podcasts.

    1. thank M Wake! you thought about goin with “Wake” as a nickname? got a nice sound to it! thanks for your vote of confidence ! I shall continue the stories as I can remember em’

  11. I look forward to all of your Nutshell sermons, hearing about the history. Being a huge fan of the SCB during the 70s and remembering all of the artist, particularly Keith Green, Love Song and Mustard Seed Faith, I can’t wait to hear the next Nutshell sermon.

  12. Love the stories! Growing up, I always felt bands like SCB were bigger than life, but it is powerful to see how you did what you did – without being bigger than!

    1. I always felt like we had a sign on our backs or somethin frankly. It always felt like there was somebody behind the curtain pullin strings. And we were not impressed

  13. Man, am I thankful for the rest of your lunatic friends who came on time with the resounding YES for you to continue your journey through the next few decades to present!
Really love getting to know you more on the inside track, and learn from the lessons God has taken you through.
